Supreme Pizza Party Dip

Guys, we have holiday parties coming up, and there are always church potlucks or family get-togethers…so what on earth does the healthy person of the group take that will be enjoyed by all (without people turning their snoots up)? Pizza dip, of course.

This was not originally my idea. I saw this recipe somewhere, probably on Foodgawker, my favorite hangout, and thought it sounded great. I purposely did not consult the recipe when making my dip (I just knew the basic ingredients), but looking back I see that we came up with a lot of the same ratios. Trust me when I say that that was not on purpose, and there are still quite a few differences in our recipes.

I took this dip to a church potluck and took home an empty pan and a lot of good reviews! Serve the dip with tortilla chips or French bread toasts for the average person and/or veggies or low-carb pita chips made with Joseph’s Low-carb Lavash Bread for low-carbers.

(Here I give you yum on a paper plate. Under fluorescent lights. At a potluck, where I felt incredibly weird for jumping in line as soon as the prayer was said and scooping up a spoonful of this dip to photograph. I didn’t have a lot of time for finesse and pretty pictures.)

Feel free to change up this recipe according to how you like your pizza. I kept things simple (because I was in a hurry, as always) and just used mushrooms and onions for my veggies, but I’m sure that green peppers, black olives, sausage, and different cheeses would make this dip even better.

You can find this recipe (and some other great party dip recipes, like a hot crab dip and a spinach artichoke dip) in my cookbook, Necessary Food.

Ingredients

All of your favorite supreme pizza ingredients layered into a warm, ooey-gooey, and delicious dip!

  • Cream Cheese – a creamy, tangy, delicious addition to this pizza dip.
  • Italian Sausage – use your favorite. I like an extra spicy variety!
  • Green Bell Pepper, Yellow Onion, and Mushroom – the classic veggie combination for supreme pizza.
  • Oregano, Basil, and Garlic Powder – that classic pizza spice blend!
  • Salt and Pepper – adds spice and brings out other flavors.
  • Pizza Sauce – use your favorite homemade or store-bought version!
  • Shredded Cheese – use mozzarella to get those classic stretchy cheese pulls, sharp cheddar for flavor, and parmesan for salty/nuttiness!
  • Pepperoni – provides a smoky, spicy flavor.
  • Black Olives (optional) – add a delicious brine-y flavor to balance out an otherwise rich dip.

Serve with tortilla chips, Triscuits, toasted baguette slices, or your favorite chip/cracker!

Serves 6-8
Cook time: 25 minutes

When tomatoes aren't at peak season, substitute about 1 cup halved (or quartered if large) cherry tomatoes, as they tend to be more flavorful year-round. This recipe makes enough dip for two bread bowls alternatively, refrigerate extra and refill one bread bowl.

  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 pepperoncini peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 head iceberg lettuce, chopped into bite-size pieces
  • 1 large tomato, diced
  • 1/4 pound Genoa salami, chopped
  • 1/4 pound ham, chopped
  • 1/4 pound prosciutto, chopped
  • 1/4 pound roast deli turkey, chopped
  • 1/4 pound provolone cheese, chopped
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 3 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 6- to 8-inch round loaf Italian bread
  • 8 hoagie rolls, sliced

Combine the chopped vegetables, meats, and cheese in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.

In another bowl, mix together mayonnaise, olive oil, oregano, basil and red pepper flakes until combined. Pour the dressing over the vegetable and meat mixture, and stir until everything is evenly coated. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Carve out the center of the loaf of bread to create a bowl. Cut the scraps into bite-size pieces. Spoon the dip into the center of the bread bowl. Serve with sliced hoagie rolls and leftover bread.

Super Supreme Pizza Dip

It’s game time! The phrase can be heard at every tailgate and living room during football season when we crowd around tv’s or shoulder up against complete strangers in stadiums across the nation. We love to entertain in our house so we often forgo the crowds that gather to watch live football games for the comfort and relative sanity of our living room.

But that doesn’t mean we don’t throw a party! It doesn’t need to be a big production, sometimes it’s just me and the boys watching our favorite teams. But none of us like to miss a minute of the action so we try to keep something on hand to snack on till the game is finished. One of our favorites’ is this Super Supreme Pizza Dip which is a perfect dip for anytime really, football, basketball, even Pizza Night.

The Pizza Dip starts with a base of Mozzarella cheese, Cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese and Mayo, then you add the pizza ingredients that you like. We often add Sausage, Mushrooms, Pepperoni, and Onion, then add some seasoning to make it a Super Supreme Pizza Dip.

To make game time even more festive, show your support for your favorite team by serving in containers like this metal bucket we found at Walmart for only $12.97, and to make clean up a breeze because let’s face it who really wants to do dishes after any game we like to serve on these football themed plates and napkins we found in the party section at walmart for $1.97 each.

So long for now I’m heading back to Walmart to grab a cooler for the big homecoming game for only $12.00!
